Warner’s Culinary Competition with Unilever

There are no cheap alternatives at Warner Leisure Hotels. Working hand in hand with Unilever for 7 years guarantees only the best household product names are used across all 13 Warner Country and Coastal Locations. There’s a reason our award-winning food tastes so good! We only use PG Tips teabags, Knorr granules, Black pepper and pasta products. We truly make food with love and care!

Working with Unilever is a great relationship for us. Recently we held our Annual Culinary Competition and the Chefs and Waiting Team were incredible. The standards were really high this year and it was Holme Lacy that took home the crown- a very well done. Huge thank you to my team members Ken and David for organising and hosting such a great day.

September saw the launch of Warner’s 5th Annual Warner Culinary Competition. The annual event involved all 13 of Warner’s hotels and resorts, was assessed by a panel of judges under time limitations and was prepared from a box of mystery ingredients.

The competition had 4 sets of heats which were hosted by Unilever, the world’s most successful consumer goods company and scored by both guests and Chefs.

Judges included; David Grindrod Warner’s  Food Development Manager, Stephen Jones from the AA and Steve Munckley who is the President of Craft Guild of Chefs and very well known in the field. Selected Warner guests and top judges scored the food, table service and overall experience of the day

Using a mystery box of ingredients, teams had to prepare a menu, cook and serve a three course menu for 3 guests. A panel of Warner guests, the Warner leadership team and a representative from the AA judged the food, table service and overall experience of the day.

The Gunton Hall team were delighted to be crowned winners.  Jason Howitt headed up the Gunton Hall with the assistance of his team. David Grindrod, Food development manager at Warner commented “the meal was well balanced and perfectly executed. The waiter gave excellent service which I could not fault.”

The winners were:

Warner Leisure Hotels Cook and Serve Team – Holme Lacy House

Best Waiter/Waitress of the day- Thoresby Hall Hotel

Best Overall dish of the day- Nidd Hall Hotel

Best Cook and serve team – Gunton Hall

Most organised team on the day- Thoresby Hall Hotel

In both finals the competitors showed real passion for food, a desire to win and excellent table service and will take valuable feedback going forward. Guests commented how much love and care went into the day, food and overall experience of the contest.  The competition sparked innovative use of ingredients, team- work and menus which will influence the meals guests can enjoy from chefs in 2014.

It means so much to us that we could invite guests to enjoy the food, experience and of course provide us with scores and feedback. We really do appreciate it.
